This page is going to be a work of art in progress...always. Here is where I'm going to post whatever strikes my fancy. Some of it will be helpful. Some of it will be silly. When looking for a gimmick to advertise my books, since I like to cook, I choose to use favorite recipes. I'd like to share them with you.
BROKEN PLEDGE

WILD GRAPE DUMPLINGS
Dumplings: Sieve together 2 cups of flour, 2 Tbs. baking soda, and 1 tsp. salt. Add 2 eggs and 2 Tbs. shortening. Stir into a stiff batter and set aside.
Cover 2 cups of cleaned grapes (wild or domestic) with water and boil for 15 minutes. Strain; add 1 cup of sweetening (sugar or honey) to juice, and return to a boil. While boiling, add dumplings a spoonful at a time. Cook for 10 minutes uncovered, then cover and cook for 10 minutes more. Serve warm.

PRALINE BISCUITS
½ cup butter
½ cup packed brown sugar
1/3 cup milk
1/3 cup applesauce
2 cups Bisquick
36 pecan halves
ground cinnamon
Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Put 2 t. butter, 2 t. sugar,
and 3 pecan halves in one of 12 muffin cups. Sprinkle
cinnamon to taste in each cup and heat until melted. Mix
Bisquick, applesauce, & milk until dough forms; beat
20 strokes Divide mixture evenly into muffin cups. Bake
10 minutes. Invert immediately onto a heatproof serving
plate. Best served warm.

2 egg whites, whipped stiff
2/3 cup sugar
1 pinch salt
½ cup chopped pecans
½ cup chocolate chips
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Whip together stiff egg
whites, sugar, salt & vanilla Mix in pecans &
chocolate chips. Drop by tsp. onto foil-covered cookie
sheet. Place in oven; turn OFF heat and leave
overnight.

CHICKASAW MOLASSES BREAD
Pour ½ cup boiling water over ½ cup
shortening.
Add ½ cup packed brown sugar, ½
cup molasses, 1 beaten egg, 1½ cup flour, ½
tsp. baking powder, ½ tsp. baking soda, ½
tsp. ginger, and a scant tsp. cinnamon.
Beat until
smooth. Bake in a oblong pan at 350 degrees for 35
minutes. Cool in pan. Makes a great dessert with
applesauce!
